mtc touch successfully launches the e-auction service First mobile number sold online for 17,000 USD Beirut, 9 November, 2008: The Ministry of Telecommunication and mtc touch, the leading mobile telecommunication company in Lebanon and Zain affiliate, announced the success of the first electronic auction round on platinum lines. In fact, on October 30th, the auction settled on the highest bid, 17,000 USD, placed on the first number 70-700700.
These are completely new grounds in the Lebanese mobile market, knowing that mtc touch is the exclusive provider of the e-auction service in Lebanon and one of the very few mobile telecom companies in the world to provide it to any potential customer. The second round of the mtc touch e-auction, to be launched on November 11th, promises to be as successful. Indeed, new platinum, golden, silver and bronze numbers will be displayed yet with reduced subscription fees – 100 USD for a platinum, 50 USD for a Golden, 35 USD for a Silver and 25 USD for a Bronze - and lower starting bids than the ones applicable for the platinum numbers. The Ministry of Telecommunication considered this accomplishment as a premiere in Lebanon and the region, highlighting that the revenues of the first round as well as those generated by the past live auction held on October 3rd, 2008 and those to be generated by the future e-auction rounds will directly go to the Lebanese treasury. These amounts will be invested in the development and the improvement of the mobile sector and hopefully provide better services for lower prices. Commenting on the results of the first round, mtc touch Chief Commercial Officer Mr. Nadim Khater said: “we are thrilled with the great results of the first round, whether in terms of success or participation. We look forward to the next rounds of the e-auction as we expect the participation rate to further increase to meet the rising demand of many Lebanese, bearing in mind the many advantages of this fully-automated mechanism which reflects a high level of transparency”. Khater added that with the end of the first e-auction round, mtc touch has proven to be a pioneer in providing its customers with exclusive and efficient services. The launching of the mtc touch e-auction service comes in line with the call for auction made by the company under the high patronage of the Ministry of Telecommunication last October. The event witnessed the selling of 33 platinum mobile numbers for a total amount of 2.516 million USD. Below are the numbers to be auctioned during the second e-round: Platinum
