Corporate Overview On June 1, 2004, Zain (formerly known as MTC Group) the leading telecommunications mobile operator in the Middle East and Africa, was tendered a 4-year agreement by the Lebanese government to manage one of the country’s two existing mobile networks (Mobile Interim Company 2 – MIC2). In November 2004, the operation was branded as mtc touch and remains today the sole subsidiary amongst 22 others not to be owned by Zain Group. Zain was established in 1983 in Kuwait as the first mobile telecom company in the region and has since branched out into a wide network in 24 countries, 8 of which are based in the Middle East (Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sudan & Palestine), and 16 of which are sub-Saharan African countries. With over 16,000 employees providing a comprehensive range of mobile voice and data services to over 69.5 million active individuals and business customers (as of December 31st, 2008). |
